review: purflo nest from beebies baby store

One of the products I was sent to review as a Beebies Baby Store Ambassador when Jake arrived was the Breathable Nest by PurFlo. Beebies sells a range of these ‘sleep pod’ type products but I’ve always been impressed by PurFlo products and was keen to try this one out.

What is the Breathable Nest?

The Nest is a simple idea – a soft mesh base for baby to lie on, surrounded by a padded bumper to cocoon the little one wherever you lie them down. You can use it as a safe space for naptime, a cot or crib insert, somewhere for them to have a kick about, or a comfy support for tummy time.

What’s so good about it?

The base and surround are fully breathable, ensuring baby sleeps safely and comfortably, and the filling in the bumper is hypo-allergenic to protect baby from household allergens. The cover, which we have in the fetching Moss Green polka dot design (also available in Mushroom), is made of 100% soft Jersey cotton and is easily removable to machine wash. It folds in half quite compactly for travelling with and barely weighs anything.

How did we find using it?

When Jake was a newborn, we used the Nest either on the floor in our living room or in the middle of our bed to give him a cosy place to lay down while we got on with jobs around him. I have tended to lay a muslin underneath his head in case of the inevitable milky vomit so I haven’t had to wash the cover yet, but it removes easily and feels lovely and soft. Now he is a bit bigger (at nearly 4 months he is the size of your average 6 month old!) we are using it as an insert in his cot, as he has outgrown the Moses basket in our bedroom. The Nest has helped make the transition from basket to cot easier as he still looks nice and cocooned in it and he has slept beautifully in it since moving into his cot a couple of weeks ago. The breathable base means he doesn’t get too warm, and we have been laying him down in a baby sleeping bag so there’s no need to tuck blankets around it.

Comfy even for big brother!

The recommendation is that the Nest can be used to sleep in up to around 6 months, or whenever baby starts to roll around and sit up unaided – obviously it should not be used on a raised surface once this is a risk. Jake is big for his age, so he is just about filling the Nest now, although if you have a smaller baby you will easily get 6 months use out of it. Once he can sit up, it will make a comfy place for him to sit in and play, or to curl up and have a rest in even when he gets too long to lie flat.

Where can I get one?

You can buy your own Breathable Nest from Beebies Baby Store for Β£49.99. Beebies also stock the snug PurFlo Jersey SleepSac in a range of colours, made from the same hypo-allergenic, anti-bacterial materials, and just perfect for cold winter nights. I think I’ll be getting Jake the coordinating Moss Spot/Stripe design (available in 4 sizes for Β£29.95).

Beebies Ambassador BadgeAs a Beebies Baby Store Brand Ambassador, I was sent a PurFlo Breathable Nest free of charge for the purpose of this review. All opinions of the product are my own.
